English Language Education Study Program Association  (APSPBI) West Java regional One-day Workshop was held at the Universitas Siliwangi  (Unsil) Tasikmalaya West Java. The workshop ran one day on Wednesday 15 February 2017. The theme of the workshop was Promoting Innovation and Creativity in EAL Research Methodology.

The workshop was co-opened by Vice Dean I of FKIP Unsil and Vice President of APSPBI. Registration for the workshop totalled 83, among whom the participants came from more than 20 English Language Education Study Program of 4 provinces: Jawa Barat, Banten, Jawa Tengah and Daerah Istimewa Jogjakarta  specifically for the event. The participants came from Universitas Siliwangi, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Untidar Jawa Tengah, UIN Sunan Gunung Jati, Universitas Pakuan Bogor, Universitas Duta Wacana, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, STKIP Pasundan, STKIP Garut, Universitas Ibnu Khaldun, Unswagati Cirebon, STKIP Rangkas Bitung, ITB, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jogyakarta, UII, ISBI Bandung, and Universitas Kuningan.  Notably, the workshop attracted English lecturers. More than 900% of the participants were resident in West Java, which made the workshop truly regional.

The workshop speaker was an Associate Professor Handoyo Puji Widodo at the  Shantou University. He has published more than 75 journal articles and 6 books. He is also a reviewer  of some international journals such as Article Editor Sage Open (UK) (March 2016) Editorial Board (Reviewer) Asian ESP Journal (2010-2016) English Australia (2011-2014) TESL-EJ (2010-2016) Referee Electronic Journal of Foreign Language Teaching (2011-2016), Foreign Language Annals (2016), Journal of Asia TEFL (2017), TESOL Journal (2011-2016), TESOL in Context (2011-2016) International Advisory Board Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (2011-2017).

This workshop has provided a platform for regional English lecturers and leaders to learn and share best practices in ELT research, and provide a networking opportunity. The purposes of this workshop were  to strengthen and broaden the network  among English Language Education Study Program in West Java in particular and Indonesia in general;  to change the  teachers’ and students’ paradigm in   English education research; showcase research in the field of language and language education; provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on good practices within English language teaching;  to encourage the  policy change at English Language Education Study Program level and Faculty level in Qualitative Research Design for BA students.

The workshop of Innovation and Creativity in EAL Research Methodology is divided into  three section : First section includes (1) what is research? (2) What to research? (3) Theoretical Positioning. Second section discussed (1) Empirical Evidential Positioning (2) Methodological Positioning  and Final section, all the participants engaged in  Research Methodology in Action activities to implement what the participant get from Mr. Handoyo Puji Widodo explanation.

This workshop is helping to further develop this meaningful and sustainable event that we believe is contributing to growth and quality of English Language Education Study Program in West Java and in Indonesia region.
